April Chairman's Report

In Leiu of a Chairmans report this month, I am inserting a message from our Los Angeles County Republican Party Chair, Lynn Haueter.   Her words more eloquently state what I believe than anything I could write.  I urge all of you to not only read what Our Chairwoman has to say but more importantly, adhere to her sage advice.

Republicans Need to Stop Party Infighting
By Lynn Haueter

Many thanks to Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, for his pointed commentary on the state of our fractured GOP. As an appointee of Smyth to the California Republican Party, and as chairwoman of the Los Angeles County Republican Party, I am in full agreement with his assessment, and more so his admonishment.

The highlight of Smyth’s lament is this insightful plea to all of his fellow Republicans:

“After spending the last six years in Sacramento, watching my fellow Republicans and many of our party leaders spend more time focused on who is more ‘conservative’ instead of working together to challenge the Democrats and their failed policies in an attempt to turn our state around, I can tell you it only works to your opponents’ advantage. ...”

This is the critical issue. Sadly, what is currently taking place in the name of “conservative principles” is only causing more harm to the actual cause of conservatism.

Over the past months, I have painfully observed some candidates and activists spending all their time attacking each other on this self-righteous premise.

They do it through blogs and deceptive websites, sending their friends and family members to do their dirty work by writing hateful letters and slanderous Facebook posts.

They disrupt committee meetings with incessant heckling and obnoxious comments and complaints.

They stage dramatic presentations — making sure they get it all on tape — calling for the “removal of the chair” based on spurious claims of “dereliction of duty.”

They shamelessly spread rumors and gossip about events and meetings, claiming that they have been “disenfranchised,” when, in reality, through their own renegade behavior, have disqualified themselves from fair and orderly procedures.

They rarely focus on the positive, and often drive new, and especially young, folks away with their frowns and sour faces; with folded arms, never smiling and ceaselessly heckling those who dare to deviate from their purist ideology.

Some of them have even gone so far as to campaign for Republican Party leadership positions by claiming they are “certified RINO (Republican in Name Only) hunters.” This one really amazes me.
Candidates for Republican leadership are “hunting” fellow Republicans — not Democrats, mind you — Republicans.

I, too, call upon my fellow Republicans to cease your ever-growing vitriol toward one another and remember why you first became active in politics.

If you are like me, it is because you saw your beloved country failing under socialist policies that have weakened the strength of our great, free-market economy. You wanted to save the republic from people who would take away your freedoms. You wanted to educate others on the brilliance of our Constitutional government and remind the next generation that America is the greatest country on Earth.

You wanted to champion the brilliant ideas of the founders who taught us the importance of self government and reminded us that we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights — among them, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

We are not granted rights by government but by God. These are the truths that we all believe. These are the truths that we must stand together and fight for.

I will end with the same plea as our assemblyman and hope that some will truly take it to heart:

“Santa Clarita deserves better than the senseless infighting we’ve witnessed recently. We need to remember that at the end of the day our goals remain the same — to keep Santa Clarita a great place to call home.”

Endorsement News From CRP

California Republican Party Endorses Candidates.

The California Republican Party, which represents over 5 million Registered Republicans, endorsed candidates for seats throughout the state at a first ever endorsing convention held at the Burbank Marriot Hotel this past week.

The Official Statewide Organization overwhelmingly endorsed Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon for the 25th Congressional District, Assemblyman Steve Knight for the 21st Senate Districtbeing vacated by Senator Sharon Runner and Deputy DA Todd Zink for the 27th Senate District currently held by Senator Tony Strickland. Strickland is now running for the neighboring 26th Congressional District and was also endorsed unanimously.

The Republican Party leadership also threw its full support behind U.S. Senate Candidate Elizabeth Emken who will be challenging long time Senator Diane Feinstein.

The endorsements come as another “first” for the State Party as a result of Prop. 14 – The “Open Primary.”

“As the Party prepares to be a vigorous contender in California’s first open primary, we seek to promote the most competitive candidates in the field this Primary season,” said Tom Del Beccaro, State Party Chairman.

Los Angeles County Republican Party Chair Lynn Haueter added, “Now that we have our officially endorsed Republican Candidates, our local Central Committees will be able to focus all their grassroots efforts on a single candidate in each race. This is very important in the top tier primary. We need to make sure our endorsed candidates are the Republican nominee on the November Ballot.”
